Colleagues:
This morning we will give section editors a preview of our plans to enhance the Los Angeles Times in print. Rethinking the look of a trusted, 126-year-old brand requires a thoughtful approach and we are most fortunate to have design director and Assistant Managing Editor Michael Whitley and his team spearheading this project.
As you know, our name and the journalism that accompanies it are our most important assets. The changes Michael and his team are developing are another step in the evolution of how we deliver news and information. The challenge they faced was in making the paper easier to read and navigate so it will appeal to more people, while retaining the sense the The Times is a serious newspaper that tells interesting stories in many forms. They captured this concept perfectly – producing distinctive pages that preserve the best parts of our past and propel us into the future.
We will have an editorial town hall meeting in a couple of weeks to show the results to all of you. The new look will debut later this month.
